Disney+ to heat up video streaming competition in Korea

Walt Disney Co. has announced it will launch its flagship streaming service Disney+ in South Korea next year, a move that would intensify competition between local and global streaming giants in the domestic market.

월트디즈니가 내년 한국에서 자사의 주력 스트리밍 서비스인 디즈니플러스를 출시할 것을 발표했는데 디즈니의 행보는 국내 시장을 두고 국내와 해외의 스트리밍 대기업들 간의 경쟁을 심화시킬 것으로 보인다.


Disney said in a tweet on Thursday that South Korea is among the major markets, including Eastern Europe and Hong Kong, in which Disney+ will roll out next year.

디즈니는 목요일 트윗을 통해 한국은 내년에 디즈니플러스가 출시될 동유럽과 홍콩을 포함한 주요 시장 중 하나"라고 밝혔다.


Disney+ has seen rapid growth since its launch in November last year, and the latest announcement falls in line with the media giant's ambitions for the global market.

디즈니플러스는 지난해 11월 출시 이후 가파른 성장세를 보이며, 이번 발표는 세계 시장에 대한 거대 미디어 기업 디즈니의 야망과 일맥상통한다.
