Heavy snow advisory issued for Seoul, surrounding areas

A heavy snow advisory has been issued for Wednesday evening in the greater Seoul area, the state weather agency said.

수요일 저녁 서울 전역에 대설주의보가 발령됐다고 기상청은 밝혔다.


The advisory goes into effect at 5 p.m. in Incheon and parts of Gyeonggi Province and at 7 p.m. in Seoul and the rest of Gyeonggi, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

기상청에 따르면 대설주의보는 인천과 경기 일부 지역에서 오후 5시부터, 서울과 경기 나머지 지역에서 오후 7시부터 발효된다.


The warning is given when the snowfall is expected to reach 5 centimeters or more within 24 hours.

대설주의보는 24시간 내 5cm 이상의 눈이 내릴 것으로 예상될 때 내려진다.


Snowfall will be heaviest between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday in the capital area, the inlands of Gangwon Province and northern Chungcheong, the KMA said.

수요일 오후 9시에서 목요일 오전 3시 사이에 수도권과 강원도 내력, 충청북도에 가장 많은 눈이 내린다고 기상청은 예측했다.


Seoul and western Gyeonggi Province are forecast to receive 3 to 10 centimeters of snowfall.

서울과 경기 서부에는 3~10cm의 눈이 내릴 전망이다.


The Seoul city government has sent more than 8,000 workers and 1,000 vehicles to major roads to prepare to remove the snow, and instructed local government offices to spray de-icing agents in advance.

서울시는 주요 도로에 근로자 8000여 명과 차량 1000여 대를 보내 제설 준비를 하고 있으며, 지자체는 사전에 제설제를 뿌릴 것을 지시했다.


Eastern Gyeonggi Province and parts of Gangwon Province are expected to receive up to 15 cm, while many southern areas of the country, including parts of South and North Chungcheong provinces and the western inland areas of South Gyeongsang Province, are forecast to receive up to 5 cm of snow. (Yonhap)

경기 동부와 강원 일부 지역은 최고 15cm, 충남과 충북 일부, 경남 서부내륙 등 남부지방에는 최고 5cm의 눈이 내릴 것으로 예보됐다.
